I had no idea that there was even a CS AP course let alone 2 to allow for an A and an AB test. I have no idea what the case study is, but good luck.

I am an AP CS Teacher at a HS in Texas.

The AP Computer Science A exam is for students who have had 1 year of computer science in high school.  If you make a 3, 4 or 5, you recieve college credit.  If this is your first year, I think it's unlikely that you'll pass the AB exam which is for students with 2 years experience.  Do you understand Big-O notation, Hashing, binary trees and heaps?

To make a 4 or 5, you will need to know the case study.  I don't mind helping you understand it as long as you're willing to read the text of the case study and work at it.  It's a big program and requires some time to understand.  I can also help you set it up as a project in JCreator.

Just send me an email if you're still interested in help.

Or you can go to my forums:

Personally, I took the AB after one year of CS and didn't see the case study til the test. I got a 5. However, I'm not saying this applies to everyone. Personally, when I saw the test, understand the marine biology case study as a whole is really not necessary - the questions are usually just asking to make a function that does this or that. You only need to understand those parts, which takes like a minute to review - and there are like 10 of those questions so you'll have plenty of time.

Hi. I'm taking Java II for Oracle at my school. Our teacher asked us if we wanted to take the exam and I said yes. Unfortunately, after the 3rd month of school, she quit teaching and lets us do whatever we wanted -_-. How exactly do we get the Marine Biology case in our Jcreator? I would really like to know. And I heard Computer Science A was a hard exam if you didn't practice for it. Has anyone ever taken it on-line? I want to try next year as an online class (even if I'm taking the exam this year). Thanks. Oh and btw, for the person who didn't know what AP was, the AP exams are a nation wide tests for high school students who wish to gain college credit prior to entering college. Colleges, of course, decide which exams they accept and which they will not accept. Depending on the college you go to and the scores you get on your AP exams, you can sometimes skip your freshman year at college (which saves typically around 1000 dollars minimum for those classes).

You can download the case study from Here  You'll have to register to get it.

This site has instructions for setting up a JCreator project for the case study.  It's for an older version, but the steps haven't changed.

I took the AP Comp Sci AB test last year and got a 5.  Data Structures are important, Maps, List, Sets, why u might use which one for certian situations is also important to know.  Algorithms show up a bit on the AB, some Big-O stuff is on there.  Recursion is big, one of my Free Response questions dealt with writing a Tree method using recursion.  I think u can see last years FR questions online at the AP's website.  If u arent familiar with those concepts u might want to go with the A, my friends said is was real easy, basically just loops and basic codeing concepts.
